Diego de Vargas led the Spanish return to New Mexico after the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, and the Vargas Project at the University of New Mexico, directed by John L. Kessell, published his papers in English translation. To the Royal Crown Restored covers 1692 to 1694: the muster at El Paso, Vargas in Zacatecas and Durango, the recruiting of colonists, and the recolonizing expedition from El Paso to Santa Fe.
