Book Donation Reviews — Albuquerque

Real stories from donors across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales, and the East Mountains

Every week, people across the Albuquerque metro donate books they no longer need — from estate cleanouts and classroom libraries to moving-day box loads. Whether they schedule a free pickup or swing by the 24/7 outdoor drop box on Edith Blvd, the experience is the same: fast, free, and no sorting required.

Here's what some of those donors and community partners have to say about working with the New Mexico Literacy Project.

I want to tell everyone how nice it is to have someone pick up boxes of books. I called Josh & we made an appointment for him to come by. He was here on time & very polite & nice to meet. He had all my boxes loaded within a few minutes. I would definitely recommend him & his cause!! It’s important that everyone be able to access & enjoy books. Thank you Josh!

Local Guide

I was very happy to have come across Josh and his father, Terry while driving by their location on Edith Blvd. They shared with me how they find useful and least wasteful places for all the books they receive. Some of the kids books go free to Little Free Libraries, hospitals & care facilities. I have had difficulty finding places to give books away to. Now I know where and will let friends and family know too. Thanks Josh & Terry!

I requested a pickup of books, dvds and vhs tapes. The boxes were heavy and I didn’t have time to take them down to their location. The form to fill out was easy and Josh responded within a few hours. Josh picked up the boxes the day he said he would. Overall, a very pleasant and easy experience. I would absolutely recommend them if you have any media you wish to donate.

I had to downsize my 93-year-old dad’s living arrangement and move him to a smaller place, wasn’t sure what to do with all the stuff that he didn’t need. I found Josh’s website *New Mexico Literacy Project) online and it was awesome. I wish I had found him the last time we downsized my dad, as we threw away a lot of stuff that could have been reused. Josh comes and takes everything, even those things he can’t do anything with and he gets rid of them or donates them for you. He was very courteous to myself and my dad and very respectful to the belongings. I highly recommend Josh if you need to downsize your loved ones. He can find new homes and new uses for the old belongings.

The New Mexico Literacy Project provides much needed services locally, and I am so happy to find it. Josh and Terry moved a garage-full of books (collected over 70 years) in less than an hour. I feel confident that the books will find good homes. Thank you so much for your service!

This is SUCH a great option when you're cleaning things out! I had boxes of books (old textbooks, baby and kid books my kids had outgrown) just sitting around. I was able to just drop them off here with no questions or issues. It was so fast and the two gentlemen who accepted them were so friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back as we continue to get organized!

Estate Cleanout

Josh was super easy to communicate and work with as I had to clear out multiple rooms filled with old books, video games, DVDs, CDs, and old electronics from my mom's house. He came over and loaded everything up super quickly no questions asked. He was very professional and honestly took a massive amount of work off my hands. It's great knowing everything will be recycled and not just tossed in the dump. Highly recommend NM Literacy Project!!!

Partner · Assistance League

New Mexico Literacy Project has been a fantastic partner for Assistance League of Albuquerque. We are a thrift store that sells donated books and a percentage of these we are unable to use. We are able to recycle these through Josh which saves us hours of sorting and disposing every week. And they do not go to a landfill. Josh is reliable and professional and the free pickup has been a huge help. It saves our volunteers from hauling boxes of books. He comes by, loads up, and we get our space back. No hassle and no minimum. I highly recommend Josh and the New Mexico Literacy Project.

“I called because I wanted to donate a lot of National Geographics magazines. I asked if they could use them all and was told to bring them over. It took me a while to pick them up and get there from the far NE heights. They waited for me and took them all. We had a good friendly conversation so I asked if they would take the comics I needed to get out. They will so I’ll be taking them sometime next week. What a friendly welcome I received and a good conversation. Their mission is clear to help others. Glad I found them and can recommend them.”

“I went to NMLP to drop off books I no longer had need or room for. Josh and his father were very friendly and welcoming. They have a fascinating space with hand built shelves to house the books coming and going. A humble operation with a lot of depth and heart. ABQ is lucky to have the service and individuals so willing to help benefit literacy and share knowledge. I am happy to know these books will have new readers. This is a down-to-earth business doing the right thing for the right reasons - it truly was an inspiring experience, I hope to be back!”
