Ask NMLP

Anything about donating or dropping off books in Albuquerque, what we accept, free pickup areas, rare collections, or New Mexico authors — ask away, and book a pickup right here.

Hi! I'm the New Mexico Literacy Project assistant. Ask me about donating books, our 24/7 drop box, free pickup, rare collections, or New Mexico authors — and I'll help you get it handled.
Do you really take any condition? Where can I drop off books near me? Can you pick up an estate's books? I have a rare collection — what should I do?

Answers are grounded in NMLP's own guides. For anything time-sensitive, call or text 702-496-4214.

Common Questions

Do you really accept books in any condition?

Yes — water-damaged, highlighted, torn, missing covers, musty, all of it. No sorting needed. NMLP also takes DVDs, CDs, vinyl, and audiobooks.

Where can I drop off books in Albuquerque?

At NMLP's 24/7 outdoor drop box, 5445 Edith Blvd NE, Unit A, in the North Valley — always open, no appointment, any quantity.

Do you offer free pickup, and where?

Yes, free, across the Albuquerque metro and the central corridor out to Santa Fe, Los Lunas, Belen, the East Mountains, Grants, and Socorro. No minimum. Call or text 702-496-4214.

Are book donations tax-deductible?

No — NMLP is a for-profit business, so donations aren't tax-deductible. Most donors choose it for the convenience: free pickup, any condition, no sorting.

I have a rare or valuable collection — what should I do?

NMLP gladly receives rare, antiquarian, and signed collections as donations, and will travel beyond the metro for a standout collection. Call or text 702-496-4214.

What happens to the books I donate?

They're resold to fund the work, given free to readers in need (hospital wards, care homes, small-town school libraries, hospice), or paper-recycled if unusable — never needlessly landfilled.
