Remote Beyond Compare gathers the sixty-four private letters Diego de Vargas wrote to his family in Spain from New Spain and New Mexico between 1675 and 1706, edited by John L. Kessell with an introduction on the Vargases of Madrid. The book prints the Spanish text of the letters after the English and adds a glossary and a genealogy appendix, and it was published in conjunction with the centennial of the University of New Mexico.
