George P. Hammond and Agapito Rey translated the documents of the Spanish entradas that reached New Mexico between Coronado's return and Oñate's colonizing expedition: the Chamuscado and Rodríguez party, Antonio de Espejo's journey, Gaspar Castaño de Sosa's unauthorized colony, Juan Morlete, and the ill-fated Leyva de Bonilla and Humaña party. The University of New Mexico Press published the volume in 1966 under the Coronado Historical Fund, in the Coronado Cuarto Centennial Publications that Hammond edited.
This copy is the 1966 first edition. The series page gives the volume number, III, and the copyright page states 'First edition' under the catalog card number. The back of the jacket lists the book's six parts, and the errata slip for the endpaper map, New Mexico in 1602, is still with the book.
