William A. Keleher, an Albuquerque lawyer and historian, wrote Turmoil in New Mexico as four books in one volume: General Kearny's march to Santa Fe in 1846, the Confederate invasion of New Mexico, Carleton's California Column, and the Long Walk of the Navajos to Bosque Redondo. The jacket lists his earlier books, Maxwell Land Grant, a New Mexico Item (1942) and The Fabulous Frontier, Twelve New Mexico Items (1945).

This copy is the Rydal Press edition of 1952 from Santa Fe, in its dust jacket. The frontispiece is Ernest L. Blumenschein's drawing of the Long Walk of the Navajo Indians, and Oscar Berninghaus decorated the titles.
