- Synners — 1991 · Bantam SpectraUS Bantam Spectra mass-market paperback original, 1991. First printing identified by the full descending number line ending in '1' on the copyright page (standard Bantam first-printing convention). The US Bantam Spectra 1991 paperback original is the first edition. A UK HarperCollins/Grafton edition (also 1991) was the first hardcover; the two appeared the same year, so strict precedence is not certain, but the US paperback original is the recognized first. Winner of the 1992 Arthur C. Clarke Award. No book club edition is noted; later HarperVoyager and Gollancz SF Masterworks reissues are reprints ('first thus').
- Fools — 1992 · Bantam SpectraUS Bantam Spectra paperback original, 1992 (a Spectra Special Edition); first printing carries the full descending number line ending in 1. Issued as a paperback original, so there is no true hardcover first. The US Bantam Spectra paperback original of 1992 is the earliest edition and precedes the UK Collins/Flamingo hardcover and paperback, which did not appear until 1994. Won the 1995 Arthur C. Clarke Award. Later UK Collins/Flamingo and subsequent reissues are reprints, not the first edition.
