Donate Winter Coats in Albuquerque — Free Pickup, Any Condition

Albuquerque winters are no joke — temperatures drop into the teens, and thousands of people in our city don't have a warm coat. If you've got coats taking up closet space, I'll come pick them up for free. Any condition, any brand, any size. I'm Josh with the New Mexico Literacy Project, and winter clothing is one of my most-requested donation categories.

Why Winter Coats Matter Here

People assume Albuquerque is warm year-round. It's not. We sit at 5,000 feet, and December through February brings freezing overnight temperatures, snow, and wind. The people who need coats most — individuals experiencing homelessness, families in transitional housing, recent refugees — are the ones least able to buy them.

When you donate a coat to me, it goes directly to someone who needs it. I don't sell wearable winter coats. They go to shelters, warming centers, and transitional programs across the metro area. That's a promise.

What I Accept

All Coats Welcome

Winter coats, ski jackets, puffer coats, parkas, peacoats, fleece jackets, rain jackets, windbreakers, down vests — any style, any brand, any age.

Any Condition

Stained, torn, missing buttons, broken zippers, outdated styles — I take it all. Wearable coats get donated directly. Damaged coats get recycled into insulation or textile fiber. Zero landfill.

Other Winter Gear Too

Gloves, mittens, scarves, beanies, hats, sweaters, hoodies, thermal underwear, snow pants, winter boots — anything that keeps someone warm.

All Sizes

Kids, teens, adults, plus-size — every size is needed. Children's coats are always in especially high demand.

Best Times to Donate Coats

I accept coats year-round, but here's when donations make the biggest impact:

Sep–Nov

Highest impact. Coats donated before winter hits go directly to people gearing up for cold weather. Shelters stock up during this window.

Mar–Apr

Spring cleanout. Great time to clear closets of coats you didn't wear this season. I store them for next winter's distribution.

Year-Round

Always accepted. Even in July, coats coming in get sorted and stored for when they're needed most.

When is the best time to donate winter coats in Albuquerque?

I accept coats year-round, but the biggest need is September through November — before cold weather hits but after most people do their fall closet cleanouts. Spring cleanouts in March and April are also a great time to donate coats you won't wear next season.

Can I donate other winter clothing besides coats?

Absolutely. I also accept gloves, scarves, hats, sweaters, hoodies, snow pants, boots, and thermal layers. If it keeps someone warm, I want it.
