Book Donation Options in Albuquerque
Albuquerque has more options for book donations than most people realize. The right choice depends on how many books you have, what condition they're in, and how much effort you want to put in.
New Mexico Literacy Project
Accepts books in any condition, any quantity, with free pickup anywhere in the Albuquerque metro and a 24/7 outdoor drop box at 5445 Edith Blvd NE, Unit A. No sorting required. Also accepts DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, board games, and puzzles. Books are hand-sorted: items with resale value are listed on Amazon and eBay, and most children's books are given away free to Little Free Libraries, UNM Children's Hospital, and care facilities. This is a for-profit business, not a nonprofit. Call or text 702-496-4214.
Goodwill Industries of New Mexico
Multiple locations around Albuquerque accept book donations during store hours. Books should be in decent, sellable condition. Goodwill does not typically accept damaged, moldy, or heavily worn books. Drop-off only; no pickup service for books. Find locations at goodwillnm.org.
Little Free Libraries
Small community book boxes scattered throughout Albuquerque neighborhoods. Great for a handful of books in good condition. Not practical for large donations. Find locations at littlefreelibrary.org/map.
ABQ Public Library System
The Albuquerque Public Library accepts gently used books for their periodic book sales. They have specific guidelines about what they can accept and do not take damaged or outdated materials. Check current donation guidelines at abqlibrary.org.
Assistance League of Albuquerque
Their thrift store accepts book donations. Volunteer-run, proceeds go to community programs. They can get overwhelmed with large book donations, so call ahead for big loads.
