You have a large book collection — maybe 500 books, maybe several thousand — and you want it to find a new home. Downsizing a personal library in neighborhoods like Edgewood, handling an inherited collection, closing a church, refreshing a school library, or managing an institutional deaccessioning, you've likely discovered that most donation centers can't handle what you're offering.
That's where I come in. The New Mexico Literacy Project is built for exactly this scenario. I specialize in large-volume book donations and have processed over 500,000 pounds of books. When others say no or suggest sorting everything yourself, I say yes and bring the vehicles to help.

Why Most Places Can't Help with Large Collections
If you've already called Goodwill, Savers, or local bookstores, you know the challenge. Here's what usually happens:
- • Goodwill and Savers are overwhelmed by volume. They accept donations, but they ask you to drop off items in manageable batches. A collection of 500+ books requires multiple trips over weeks or months.
- • Independent bookstores are picky about condition and genre. They want bestsellers and popular titles, not comprehensive collections.
- • Most nonprofits lack the logistics to handle large pickups. They expect you to deliver donations yourself.
This is where I differ. Large collections are my strength, not my challenge.
How NMLP Handles Large Donations
I've developed a straightforward process for large book collections. Here's how it works:
Step 1: Call and Describe Your Collection
Contact us at 702-496-4214 and tell me what you have. How many books? Approximate size of the collection? Any special items? I ask a few quick questions to understand the scope.
Step 2: I Schedule a Pickup
I arrange a pickup time that works for you. For large collections in the Albuquerque area, I bring the vehicles and personnel to handle the job.
Step 3: I Load and Remove Everything
No sorting required. No need to organize by genre or condition. I load books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks directly from shelves, boxes, or storage areas. I handle all the heavy lifting.
Step 4: Books Get Sorted and Circulated
After pickup, I sort, evaluate, and find new readers for every book I can. The rest are processed responsibly.
What I Accept
I'm flexible about what constitutes a donation. Here's what I handle:
- ✓ Hardcover and paperback books in any condition
- ✓ DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks
- ✓ Books with wear, highlighting, or annotations
- ✓ Mixed collections of any genre
- ✓ Unsorted, unorganized collections
