For UNM students, faculty, or staff who need a book drop-off:
- NMLP 24/7 outdoor donation box — 5445 Edith Blvd NE, Unit A, Albuquerque NM 87107. Roughly 10 minutes from UNM main campus via Edith Blvd / Lomas / Comanche. Accessible day or night, 365 days a year. No appointment, no condition gatekeeping, no paperwork. Park in the warehouse lot, drop the boxes by the outdoor bin, drive away.
- UNM Bookstore buyback (in Bookstore building) — for current-edition required-text textbooks only. Cash on the spot. Walking distance. For a full comparison of buyback options, see the college textbook buyback guide.
- Goodwill of New Mexico San Mateo location — about 8 minutes from UNM via Central. Drop-off, condition restrictions apply, tax receipt available.
- Friends of the Albuquerque Public Library — Main Branch downtown — about 10 minutes from UNM. Selective intake, limited windows, tax receipt available.
- Title Wave Books — 2318 Wisconsin St NE — the University-area independent used bookstore, a short drive north of campus. Buyback and trade-in for clean, recent saleable books; store credit pays a higher rate than cash. Selective about textbooks, and outdated editions are declined.
For UNM students with end-of-semester volume (a whole apartment of books, dorm cleanout): NMLP picks up for free at every UNM dorm and most off-campus housing in the area. See end-of-semester move-out details. For textbook-specific logistics at UNM, read our UNM textbook donation guide.
Getting there, and what fits in the box
From main campus it is a straight shot north: I-25 to the Comanche or Montaño exit, or up Edith Boulevard through the neighborhoods, about ten minutes either way, near the Edith and Montaño intersection. The stop itself takes two minutes — park in the warehouse lot, set the load by the outdoor bin, drive away. The box takes books in any condition plus DVDs, CDs, vinyl, board games, and puzzles; grocery bags are as welcome as boxes, and no sorting is expected. During finals weeks I clear it several times a day, so if it looks full, leave the overflow beside it and it will be inside within hours.
Timing around finals week
The bookstore buyback runs Monday through Friday of finals week and ends abruptly when finals end — miss the window by a day and that channel is closed until next semester. The weekend after finals, the drop box is effectively the only thing open, which is most of the reason it exists. If your hall wants to skip the individual car trips entirely, an RA can stage a lobby collection point and I will clear it in one trip, boxes provided. Move-out is my busy stretch, so tell me your timeline and I'll do my best to fit you into the route as soon as I can. And if you are driving north out of town after your last final, the box is on the way — details in the UNM student donation guide.
