An NMLP donation routing partner — Albuquerque, NM

Why this matters

APS Title I serves elementary schools with high free-and-reduced-lunch enrollment. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program serves students experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Both programs depend on donated books to maintain classroom and home reading materials — federal Title I funds rarely cover trade-book replacement at the rate teachers and counselors need. NMLP is one channel that helps fill that gap.

What NMLP donates

How the routing works

NMLP routes children's and reading-condition books to APS Title I and McKinney-Vento on an ongoing basis as donations come through the warehouse. Volume varies week to week — large estate cleanouts and downsizing donations from longtime Albuquerque families often produce significant numbers of books appropriate for classroom and student use. NMLP coordinates with APS staff for delivery; the program absorbs as much as classroom teachers need.

How this routing started

Direct outreach from NMLP to APS program coordinators after recognizing the volume of children's books coming through donation that needed routing to actual readers.
