Sci-fi and fantasy are categories where individual titles can have significant collector value while the bulk routes through standard channels. NMLP evaluates each book in a sci-fi/fantasy donation:
- Vintage paperback originals — Asimov, Heinlein, Le Guin, Roger Zelazny (NMLP maintains a Zelazny pillar covering authentication and pricing), Philip K. Dick, Ursula K. Le Guin. Specific first editions can have substantial collector value.
- Tolkien — multiple printings of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings exist; some are highly valuable. NMLP can authenticate per the Tolkien pillar.
- George R.R. Martin — Santa Fe resident; A Song of Ice and Fire first editions are notable. See the Martin pillar.
- Modern fantasy — Sanderson, Jordan, Rothfuss, Erikson — strong online resale demand for hardcover firsts.
- Mass-market paperback sci-fi/fantasy — DAW Books, Ballantine, Bantam, Tor — high LFL demand; route to readers.
- Comics-adjacent: Star Wars novels, D&D / Magic novels, video game tie-ins — niche but real online resale market.
