The operational record

Pickup Stories — The real runs that prove NMLP shows up.

Every meaningful pickup, photographed and dated. Miles driven. Pounds moved. Time spent. What the donor's library actually looked like and where the books actually went.

When you call about a free pickup and ask "do you actually drive there," this is the answer. Not a marketing claim — the real record of the work, growing over time.

Four Little Free Libraries, restocked in one Sunday loop

The outbound side of NMLP intake. The day after the Socorro pickup, a four-stop loop across Albuquerque LFLs — kids' books, YA, contemporary fiction, classics, the random reference and self-help that gets the right reader on the right day. NMLP "Got books? Free pickup" bookmark left visibly in every box.

Wall of stacked banker boxes from a Socorro County estate book pickup, May 9 2026
May 9, 2026 5,000 lb 75 mi 3 hours

Saturday in Socorro: 5,000 pounds in three hours

75 miles south of Albuquerque on I-25, over dirt and broken sidewalks, into a Socorro County estate. Mixed medical-professional library, deep religious-and-devotional shelf, regional NM-history shelf, paperback genre. One man, one truck, no fee. Goodwill of Central NM's nearest Socorro store is 45 miles north in Belen; Friends of APL doesn't drive south of metro. The math is different because the model is different.

What gets added to this archive

Not every pickup becomes a story — that would dilute the record. A pickup graduates into the archive when one or more of the following is true:

Every story includes the date, the location (anonymized to ZIP-code or neighborhood level), the operational stats, the photographic record of the load, and a plain-language account of what the books were and where they went.

Free statewide pickup

Your pickup could be the next story.

Albuquerque metro, Rio Rancho, Corrales, East Mountains, Santa Fe, Belen, Los Lunas, Socorro, Bernalillo, Placitas, Edgewood — and anywhere else in the central NM corridor that has the volume to justify the run. No condition limit. No minimum. No fee.
