Because the type was distributed after the first printing, the second impression (December 1954, 2,500 copies) is a complete resetting rather than a corrected reprint, differing from the first in numerous small settings; it and all later impressions are noted on the copyright page. Book-club printings and the revised second edition (1965 onward) are distinct and lack the first-impression map and jacket states.
