Office Closing or Downsizing? How to Donate Business Books in Albuquerque
When an office closes, moves, or downsizes, business books pile up fast. Management titles gathering dust on shelves. Industry references that went out of date three years ago. Training manuals from conferences nobody attended. Break room novels left behind. Technology updates that rendered entire reference libraries obsolete. It all needs to go somewhere—and most business owners default to the same solution: call a junk removal company, pay by the load, and watch everything get hauled to the landfill.
There's a better option. At the New Mexico Literacy Project, I specialize in business book donations. I pick up bulk collections for free, handle everything myself, and keep those books in circulation instead of the waste stream.
Why Offices Accumulate Books (And Why They All Need to Go at Once)
Every office library tells a story. It's usually a story of good intentions slowly piling up into a storage problem.
- •Management and business titles: The books everyone bought during motivational phases. Leadership frameworks. Productivity systems. They sit unread.
- •Industry references: Textbooks, legal codes, medical references. Required when printed, outdated now that everything's online.
- •Training manuals and workbooks: From workshops and seminars. Employees completed them once and never opened them again.
- •Conference giveaways: Free books from industry events. Useful for a week, then they occupy shelf space permanently.
- •Break room paperbacks: Someone donated them years ago. A few got read. Most just aged on the shelf.
When a business closure, relocation, or downsizing forces a cleanout, these accumulated books suddenly become an urgent problem. You can't ship hundreds of pounds across the country. You don't have space in the new office. And you certainly don't want to box them all individually for a thrift store.
The Standard Solution Doesn't Work for Books
Most office cleanout companies charge by the load and haul everything straight to the landfill. That's convenient for them. It's expensive for you and wasteful for the community.
At NMLP, I do this differently. I've processed over 500,000 pounds of books. A few shelves or an entire office library—I'm built for bulk donations. I sort, evaluate, and redistribute books to readers and organizations that actually need them.
What Types of Business Books Do I Accept?
My goal is simple: keep books in circulation. That means I accept virtually everything from an office cleanout.
- ✓Business and management books
- ✓Legal references and law firm libraries
- ✓Medical texts and healthcare office references
- ✓Technical manuals and engineering guides
- ✓Trade journals and industry publications
- ✓Break room paperbacks and fiction
- ✓DVDs and CDs
- ✓Children's books (yes, some offices have kids' corners)
No sorting required. Any condition accepted. Beaten-up covers? Highlighted pages? Outdated information? I handle it. Just let us know what you have, and I'll pick it up.

- →Corporate campuses and headquarters relocating
- →Schools and universities downsizing collections

What Happens to Your Books After Donation
I sort every book and evaluate condition. Readable books get redistributed—sold affordably to readers, given to community organizations, or shipped to libraries and schools. Only books too damaged to read — water-stained, moldy, or falling apart — go to paper recycling. My goal is to keep as many books as possible in circulation.
Children's books from office cleanouts? I donate those free to UNM Children's Hospital, care facilities, and rural New Mexico schools. I give them free to kids across the Albuquerque area.
